How to Play

Gridiron Vault is a play-money fantasy football card game: collect cards, build lineups from your own collection, and score off real NFL stats. No real money is ever used, wagered, or paid out.

The Short Version

  1. Buy packs with your play-money bankroll and open them for player cards.
  2. Enter a contest by building a 5-card lineup out of cards you own.
  3. Win play money to climb the leaderboard and continue building your dynasty.

1. Get Cards

Every new player starts with a $1,500 play-money bankroll. Spend it on packs from the Packs page, which open into player cards across five rarity tiers:

Bronze Silver Gold Platinum Diamond

Exact pack pricing and contents are shown right on the Packs page before you buy.

Every card is serial-numbered against a fixed, limited print run (e.g. #12/30).

Rarity is not a scoring boost. A Bronze copy of a player scores exactly the same real fantasy points as a Diamond copy of that same player in the same game.

2. Build a Lineup

Head to Contests, pick one, and fill its slots with cards from your Vault.

Classic contests (the standard weekly slate) use 5 slots:

SlotEligible positions
QBQB
RBRB
WRWR
WR/TEWR, TE
FLEXRB, WR, TE, K, DEF

Showdown contests are built around a single real game (usually a marquee primetime matchup) instead of the full week — 3 all-FLEX slots, any position including K and DEF, but every card in the lineup has to be from one of the two teams actually playing in that game.

Every contest has a tier (Bronze through Diamond) that sets a minimum bar for the cards you can use — a Bronze contest accepts anything, but a Diamond contest demands real chase cards:

DiamondEvery card Platinum+; 2+ must be Diamond+Every card Platinum+; 1+ must be Diamond+

Each contest page spells out its exact rule, and the lineup builder only lets you submit a legal combination.

3. Contest Scoring and Locking

A completed contest pays out by final rank against its prize pool (shown on the contest page before you enter). Ties are broken by whichever lineup has the lowest total card serial number — so a lower-numbered card is a genuine, if small, edge.

4. Track Your Standing

The Leaderboard ranks every player by total play-money winnings across the season (ties broken by cashes, then wins). My Contests shows every lineup you've entered, live scores while games are underway, and a running total of what you've won.

5. Marketplace

Don't need a card, or chasing one specific serial? The Marketplace lets you list cards or unopened packs for a fixed asking price, and lets buyers either bid below that price, pay full price with Buy Now, or place an "any serial" offer against every listing of a given player/tier at once — first seller to accept wins. You'll get a notification (the bell icon, top right) whenever someone bids on something you're selling, or a contest of yours pays out.

A card currently sitting in a lineup for a contest that hasn't finished yet can't be sold. Trying to list one is blocked outright, and if a card gets entered into a lineup after it's already listed, that listing shows as paused — still visible, but not buyable or biddable-on — until the contest completes or the card comes back out of the lineup.
